Employee Spotlight - Crystal Roberts
Our Employee Spotlight is a series meant to surface stories of amazing individuals here at Venture who are doing great things behind the scenes; not just for the company but also for the community.
Have you met Crystal Roberts, Project Coordinator? Crystal works with our Totem Lake and Aegis Greenwood teams at Venture and is an avid supporter of her local community – especially during this pandemic. With a 3-year tenure, Crystal is a Venture veteran. Her positive attitude is infectious and her unique qualities contribute to making our company successful, as well as a great place to come to work. Let’s learn more about her:
What is your role at Venture?
I am a Project Coordinator.
What inspired you to help your community?
I take great joy in helping others, especially during difficult times. I saw a need in my community and had the resources to help out.
Describe how you have been involved giving back to your community.
I was able to partner with another caring member of my community, and together we have been able to provide boxes of food on a weekly basis to many families in need. Also, there’s a “Free Food Pantry” in my neighborhood. When I’m out walking with the kids and the dog, I like to swing by and make sure it’s stocked with food and other essentials.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I have been trained in Phlebotomy. (Phlebotomy is when someone uses a needle to take blood from a vein, usually in your arm. Also called a blood draw or venipuncture, it's an important tool for diagnosing many medical conditions.)
What do you consider to be the most rewarding part of your job?
Helping others! I love Venture’s culture, the Work-Life balance my position affords me, as well as the diversity and variety. I see that there are opportunities to expand myself daily. I’m pretty sure I have learned more about construction in the last three years working for Venture, than I have during the sum of my career.
How has quarantine changed your daily work life?
The past 6 weeks have been interesting, to say the least. These have been some of the longest days of my life. Any concept of ‘business hours’ has been thrown out the window. As always, it takes what it takes-and right now, it just takes more. Communication and flexibility have become even more crucial.
With all three of my kids home, I have had to balance my work with being their teacher- something I never thought I would have to do. It has been challenging and it is a constantly changing process, but I am grateful for the opportunity to spend more time with them in the comfort of our home. Not to mention, our puppy Hunter has loved having us all here!
What shows are you currently watching/binging?
Tiger King. Ozark. NCIS (I know, I know- it’s the cheesiest. But there’s like 15 seasons and because it’s so bad, it makes for good background noise when I get sick of music). Shows I’m currently being forced to binge watch due to proximity? Anything/Everything YouTube, Liv & Maddie, and Fuller House.
